We are looking for a Mechanical & Test Engineering Intern to lead hands-on work building, integrating, and testing our thin-film neural devices. This is a high-ownership role. You will not be following fully defined protocols. You will help build, refine, and execute device fabrication, integration, and reliability workflows that directly feed into our neural interface platform. You will work closely with the microfabrication, biointerface, neuroengineering, and pre-clinical teams to generate data, improve systems, and accelerate iteration.
What You’ll Do
- Hands-on fabrication and handling of thin-film electrode arrays — assembly, bonding, and integration into test and implant hardware
- Build and run benchtop test setups to characterize electrode and device performance (e.g., impedance, mechanical, and accelerated-aging tests)
- Prototype fixtures, enclosures, and small mechanical parts in CAD, and fabricate them by 3D printing and basic machining
- Support in vivo studies in rodents — device preparation, surgical support, headcap handling, and explant analysis
- Help refine assembly, integration, and reliability protocols in a fast-moving environment, rather than just following fixed ones
- Document protocols and experimental results clearly to ensure reproducibility
- Work cross-functionally with the microfabrication, biointerface, and neuroengineering teams to support rapid iteration
What We’re Looking For
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Minimum 12-week commitment, full-time.
- Hands-on experience building or testing hardware in a lab — fabrication, assembly, or benchtop characterization
- Comfortable working with animals (rodent handling or surgical support a plus).
- Ability to operate independently in the lab with minimal supervision
- Experience developing or adapting experimental protocols, not just following them
- Strong attention to detail and experimental rigor
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment
Nice to Have
- Experience with thin-film electrodes, flexible circuits, or microfabrication
- Familiarity with implantable or in vivo devices and biocompatibility considerations
- CAD proficiency and hands-on prototyping (3D printing, machining)
- Exposure to biointerfaces or neural interfaces
- Basic data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, ImageJ, etc.)
What You'll Get
- Hands-on experience with cutting-edge research and development
- Mentorship from experienced engineers and scientists
- Exposure to next gen neural interface design and testing
- Opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects impacting real patients
