We’re seeking a mission-driven Electrical Engineer to build core data acquisition and test electronics and firmware for our next gen neural interface systems. You will own the bring-up and firmware development of analog acquisition hardware, stimulation circuits, wireless data transfer, and power delivery – working closely with biologists and microfabrication engineers. This role is based in Palo Alto and offers the opportunity to shape foundational technology in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary team.
What You’ll Do
- Build and optimize wireless data and power transfer systems
- Lead PCB schematic, layout, fabrication, assembly and bring-up of custom boards
- Architect unit and system-level testing and debugging across electronics and biointerfaces
- Collaborate cross-functionally with biology and engineering teams
- Design and build automated electrical test systems for characterizing implant performance under simulated physiological conditions (saline environments, temperature cycling, accelerated aging)
- Develop comprehensive test protocols for neural recording/stimulation electronics, power systems, and wireless telemetry in biologically relevant conditions
- Create scalable test fixtures and benchtop setups that enable rapid iteration and parallel testing of multiple device variants
- Build automated test reporting and data analysis pipelines to track device performance over time
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years experience developing implantable medical electronics or consumer electronics
- Proficiency with embedded system architecture and board-level bring-up, including RTOS-based firmware, low-power design, peripheral driver development, hardware/software debugging, and common wired/wireless communication protocols such as SPI, I²C, UART, USB, CAN, BLE, and Wi-Fi.
- Track record of shipping production firmware in C/C++ and/or HDL designs in Verilog/SystemVerilog, from implementation and debugging through validation and deployment.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, KiCAD)
- Experience with wireless power/data (e.g., inductive coupling, BLE, RF design)
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, signal integrity, EMI mitigation
- Comfortable with design of high speed digital interfaces
- Experience with testing automation
- Experience working with power and size constrained production products
- Comfortable leading the charge in a hands-on, fast-paced startup environment
Nice to Have
- Background in neurotechnology, bioinstrumentation, or medical device design
- Familiarity with industry standards related to medical devices e.g. IEC 60601
- Experience with electrophysiology recordings
- Expert with FPGA and HDL-based development ([System]Verilog)
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Salary/Pay Range
Competitive salary + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity
- Medical, dental and vision
- Flexible vacation and company-paid holidays
- Healthy meals and snacks provided for non-remote employees
- Paid parental, jury duty, bereavement, family care and medical leave
- 401(k)
