Device Engineer - Implantable Neural Devices

Engineering · Full-time

← All open roles

We're hiring a Device Engineer to build, test, and validate our implantable neural devices on-site in Palo Alto. You'll own hands-on assembly and electrochemical/reliability testing of implantable devices, while helping build the test infrastructure, SOPs, and tooling our growing team relies on.

The Role

This is a high-ownership role. You will help build, refine, and execute device fabrication, integration, and reliability workflows that directly feed into our neural interface platform. You will work closely with the microfabrication, electrical engineering, and biointerface teams to generate data, improve systems, and accelerate iteration.

What You’ll Do

  • Hands-on fabrication and assembly of implantable devices with precision and consistency, maintaining detailed build records
  • Integrate devices into test and implant hardware, building and maintaining the fixtures needed for assembly and testing
  • Characterize device performance through electrochemical testing (EIS, CV, chronoamperometry, etc.) and mechanical/reliability testing
  • Design, execute, and analyze Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) protocols as part of that reliability work; track and interpret failure modes
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and lab tooling to improve throughput and repeatability
  • Collaborate with Biology and EE teams on design feedback and device iteration
  • Support and help refine microfabrication processes in the cleanroom

What We’re Looking For

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience building or testing hardware in a lab – fabrication, assembly, and benchtop characterization
  • Comfort working with small, delicate assemblies and precision instrumentation
  • BS in Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar)
  • Basic data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, ImageJ, etc.)
  • Ability to operate independently in the lab with minimal supervision
  • Experience developing or adapting experimental protocols, not just following them
  • Strong attention to detail and experimental rigor
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with implantable neural or bioelectronic devices
  • Experience with cleanroom processes and microfabrication
  • Experience running Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) protocols
  • Experience with FEA/FEM tools
  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent) in Biomedical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

Salary/Pay Range

Competitive salary + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Medical, dental, vision and life insurance
  • Flexible vacation and company-paid holidays
  • Healthy meals and snacks provided for non-remote employees
  • Paid parental, jury duty, bereavement, family care and medical leave
  • 401(k)
