← All open roles

We are looking for a PhD-level Cell Engineering Intern to lead hands-on work in cell culture and in vitro biointerface development. This is a high-ownership role. You will not be following fully defined protocols. You will help build, refine, and execute cell culture and interface workflows that directly feed into our neural interface platform. You will work closely with the biointerface, neuroengineering, microfabrication, and pre-clinical teams to generate data, improve systems, and accelerate iteration.

What You’ll Do

  • Independently run and maintain mammalian cell culture systems (primary cells, stem cells, or differentiated systems)
  • Develop and refine cell culture protocols in a fast-moving environment
  • Support development of biointerface systems, including cell–material interactions (e.g., coatings, hydrogels, ECM)
  • Design and execute in vitro experiments to evaluate biological–electrical interface performance
  • Characterize cell behavior relevant to integration, signaling, and stability
  • Document protocols and experimental results to ensure reproducibility
  • Work cross-functionally with device and neuroengineering teams to support rapid iteration

What We’re Looking For

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Minimum 12-week commitment, full-time.
  • Current PhD student in Bioengineering, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or related field
  • Strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture (primary cells and/or stem cells required)
  • Ability to operate independently in the lab with minimal supervision
  • Experience developing or adapting experimental protocols, not just following them
  • Strong attention to detail and experimental rigor
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cell–material interfaces (hydrogels, ECM, coatings)
  • Familiarity with electrically active cell systems or electrophysiology
  • Experience with cell engineering techniques (e.g., viral transduction, CRISPR)
  • Exposure to biointerfaces or neural interfaces
  • Basic data analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, ImageJ, etc.)

What You'll Get

  • Hands-on experience with cutting-edge research and development
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers and scientists
  • Exposure to next gen neural interface design and testing
  • Opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects impacting real patients
